The Elizabeth Swann is a high-value vessel, loaded with juicy tech, that makes her a target for modern pirates, and even underhanded government agencies. With many wealthy persons looking to live longer, desirous of the DNA decoder, made famous when Pope Peter Benedict is cured of cancer, some of the less scrupulous billionaires, also try to steal the ship. For this reason, the designer of the vessel, Professor Douglas Storm, included a tazer (taser) system and a laser system, working in tandem and coordinated by 'Merlin' the advanced warning and targeting system.
The onboard lazer cannon system is called 'Excalibur,' a kind of modern sword, or light sabre, that in the correct conditions, can penetrate the hull of a marauding pirate boat (or other unwelcome guests), if all other warnings fail to deter. The tazer system is called 'Pendragon,' after the legendary King Arthur, named by George Franks, Professor Storm's friend. Should any unwelcome visitors seek to board the Swann, they will get a shocking reception, making them want to disembark very quickly. As any pirates or other uninvited guests persist, the level of pain increases, until, finally, they might be rendered unconscious. In all cases the authorities are alerted. Unless, it is the local authorities seeking to board. When an international distress signal is sent.
This system can operate independently of Hal, the onboard AI, but works even better in combination with the artificially intelligent assessment of the situation.
The 'Elizabeth Swann' is a solar assisted, hydrogen powered ship that is thought to be the fastest in the world, and the most advanced technologically. She was inspired by the character, Elizabeth Swann, in the Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean movies, (played by Keira Knightley). Though, we know of a lady of the same name who lives in England.
The Swann is equipped with a stunning array of ocean instruments, that makes her invaluable for underwater surveys and other surface marine tasks, under the command of her rugged ocean conservationist captain: John Storm. A man of many talents, who becomes physically and mentally enhanced during his adventures.
The Elizabeth Swann is autonomously piloted by Captain Nemo, named after the Captain of the Nautilus in Jules Verne's classic: 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. A stand alone unmanned navigation system.
